Brasserie · Düsseldorf, on the Rhine
French cooking by the Rhine. No reservations, no fuss.
Wednesday to Saturday noon–11 pmSunday from noonRathausufer 10 · 0211 152 078 34 Kitchen until 9 pm · Sundays until 4:30 pm
La Maison
ROBERT. is a brasserie on the Rathausufer – a few steps from the water, right in the old town. Inside: stucco ceilings, warm light, full tables. Outside, the Rhine drifts by.
Tables go to whoever walks in. We don’t take reservations – but something always frees up. That’s how it’s always been, and that’s how it stays.
La Cuisine
Michael Geißner is in the kitchen – owner, head chef, and simply Micha to everyone here. He cooks French: onion soup, oysters from Normandy, duck confit, crème brûlée. Much of it over an open fire, some of it on a whim, depending on what the market has to offer.
The direction is French, but never set in stone: if something is good, in season, or simply belongs on the menu, it makes the cut even when it isn’t French – Swabian Maultaschen, say, or fish & chips.
So the menu doesn’t list everything we have. And not everything on it is there every day. Just ask – the best dish sometimes isn’t written down at all.

The menu is a snapshot. It changes with the seasons, the market – and now and then with Micha’s mood.

L’Histoire
The dot in the name is not a typo.
Robert Hülsmann cooked for more than fifty years – halfway around the world, in Düsseldorf kitchens, always with plenty of heart. Brasserie cooking was his great love, and this restaurant was his last project. The full stop after the name was his way of saying: this, right here, is it.
“The old man still does the cooking himself.”
Robert died in May 2021. His name is still on the door, his recipes still in the kitchen. These days Micha carries the house on – he cooked at Robert’s side back then, and with his team he cooks, every day, in a way Robert would have no complaints about.

Chef
Gets the pans glowing in the early hours – and was already part of Robert’s kitchens back in the day.
Chef
Our man for the cold kitchen, with a perfectionist streak. Before this: almost twenty years in the same house.
On En Parle
When it looked like ROBERT. might have to close in late 2025, the support was overwhelming – and it’s now settled: ROBERT. carries on. The city’s restaurant guides keep listing it anyway. Articles in German.
En Ce Moment
The menu moves, and so does the day. What Micha is cooking, what has just come in fresh, what’s going on in the house – we post it on Instagram between services.
